What the Bible Says
Ten Benefits from the Habit of Tithing
Tithing isn't a matter of God subtracting from you, but rather
God's means of multiplying blessings to you and through you.
1. God is pleased by your obedience.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…” -Malachi
3:10
“The entire tithe…every tenth…will be holy to the
Lord.”-Leviticus 27:32
2. God is honored by your faithfulness.
“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first fruits of
all your crops…” Prov. 3:9
“Your giving proves the reality of your faith” (Ph) -2
Corinthians 9:13
3. It helps keep your priorities straight.
“The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God
first in your life.” -Deuteronomy 14:23 (LB)
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be
also.” -Matthew 6:21
4. Makes you eligible for a blessing.
“'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may
be food in my house. Test me in this,' says the LORD Almighty,
‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and
pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for
it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines
in your fields will not cast their fruit.' Says the LORD
Almighty.” -Malachi 3:10-11
“it's better to give according to your
income – lest God make your income according to your giving.”
5. Guards Christians from materialism.
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be
arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain,
but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with
everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich
in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” -1
Timothy 6:17-18
"Anything that we have that we can't let go of…we
don't have it…it has us. That becomes an idol."
6. God loves a cheerful giver.
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap
sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Each man should give what he had decided in his heart to give, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful
giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
"It's easy to give cheerfully as long as we remember
that it's not ours to begin with…it all belongs to Him."
7. Support of the Great Commission .
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…”
-Matthew 28:19
8. Ensures your needs will be met.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all
these things will be given to you as well.” -Matthew 6:33
9. It helps meet the needs of God's people.
“Now about the collection for God's people: Do what I told
the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each
of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income,
saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be
made.” -1 Corinthians 16:1-2
10. It reminds us that God is the true owner and
giver of all that we have.
“Always remember that it is the Lord -your God who gives you
the ability to produce wealth.” -Deuteronomy 8:18
